To the editor:

Tuesday, Nov. 4, is the date of the next general election. In Pound Ridge, David Dow is running for Town Council and he is an exemplary candidate. David has been a Trustee of the Pound Ridge District Library for five years serving as President for the past three. His stewardship played an integral role in the renovations and improvements to the Library’s interior and exterior and enhancements of its programs.

Dave is a practicing attorney and has been for more than 16 years, specializing in intellectual property, litigation and regulatory law. In addition to a law degree, David holds a graduate degree in Cellular Biology. Before practicing law, he worked several years in molecular biology research.  An active community volunteer, David is the “go to guy” for which no task is too daunting. For example, at Annual Pride Day, he can be found with his sleeves rolled up weeding, planting and beautifying Pound Ridge. He has been involved in many town activities and events including: Harvest Fest, the Campout in the Town Park and our annual 5K race. David and his wife, Colette, have lived in Pound Ridge since 1998. They have two children who attend Pound Ridge Elementary School. The Dow family owns and operates Pound Ridge School of Dance in Scotts Corners and is very active in community affairs.  David’s platform for Town Board is threefold: “Preserve what works, Protect property values, and Promote change where needed.” He advocates preserving the quality of life in Pound Ridge with an eye on environmental conservation. David understands the necessity of protecting our property values since for many of us, “our home is our biggest financial investment.” He will determine “the needs and expectations of the community, understanding that ideas for new services must provide a meaningful benefit to the larger community rather than a particular constituency.”  In the business district, he will work closely with business owners and will continue to support the Partnership. As for promoting change, David realizes that: “There are many challenges ahead for the town – business district revitalization and infrastructure enhancements, cell service improvements, service adjustments in light of state mandates and housing concerns to name a few.” He views the Transportation Enhancement Program as an opportunity to provide needed improvements but has stated, “for significant impact, proper investments in infrastructure particularly, the water and septic systems are required.” The policymaking experience David has gained from his work as a public official on the Pound Ridge Library District Board has given him insight into the responsibilities of Town Council. His legal training has taught him to think analytically and devise reasonable solutions when problems and unique situations arise. As a scientist, he has learned to focus on details, conduct research, and think “outside the box”. These skills and attributes are the qualifications that define David as a strong candidate for Town Council.  Please help elect him to the Pound Ridge Town Board on Tuesday, Nov.  4.  Thank you.
