To the editor:
When I met Dave Dow a few years ago, I described him to others as a quiet guy. Mild-mannered, smart, polite you might think he’s a bit like Clark Kent. I soon discovered through observations and interactions that he is far more than the reserved man he first presents himself to be. Dave is a talented listener and a quiet leader who speaks up and speaks out when he needs to. I have witnessed Dave’s people skills in action at the library, as he has taken the pulse of the community the last few years. Dave asks questions and listens. There were library surveys, focus groups and questionnaires. How can we improve the library? What services would you like to see? Understanding the wants and needs of the community is key and the library has made so many needed enhancements. These enhancements were more than just one or two small items, they included structural work, aesthetics, circulation updates and programming . Thankfully, these changes did not take forever to implement with a team of dedicated volunteers and a leader like Dave, who executed the plans. Dave is a listener who takes action and gets things done. His gift is the ability to care enough to really listen, take notes, remember people’s thoughts and details, and then actually do something with that information. He is not a polarizing figure, and therefore has an equal amount of friends on all sides of the political aisle. There is an inordinate amount of people who have run for political office who say they “hear you.” But, how many actually listened? They are too busy talking and saying what they will do and never get it done. Dave is a doer, and has already proven to the town that he works well with others and makes things happen. Like Clark Kent, there’s more than meets the eye here. Dave is a super-man. A super listener, leader, attorney, dad and husband, and he will certainly make a super town councilman.
