To the editor:

I met David Dow last year when I was thinking about running for Town Council in Pound Ridge. My first impression was that he was reserved and focused. He listened intently to what I had to say, which was no easy task because I was on one of my rolls that day. Dave had never met me, but he offered assistance, educated me on the struggles that he and his wife Colette faced as business owners in Scotts Corners -- and showed a great understanding for the water issues that plague our downtown.

He was well versed on the need for a decentralized water treatment facility and how these systems work. We discussed other town affairs, our fiscal drivers, environmental concerns and community service. Here I was, the candidate, hoping to earn his vote and he was the one impressing me with his knowledge of the real issues our town faces. I quickly came to realize that David himself could be an asset on our town board. If you glance at his resume, you will find that Dave not only holds a law degree, but also a science degree that will serve the town well as we continue to tackle our environmental issues. Look further and you’ll see David already has served us as a member of the Pound Ridge Library District Board and as its president. We all know of the major improvements made to this facility –the heart of our town—and Dave deserves a good deal of credit for his leadership. Since the completion of the construction and overhaul, the Pound Ridge Library has increased circulation and overall usage, making it a central hub and integral part of our town.

As if this isn’t enough, I’ve seen David on football and baseball fields assisting the coaches; getting involved in town activities like Harvest Fest, the annual campout at the town park and the annual 5K race on the 4th of July; and getting his hands dirty for Pride Day planting and beautifying the downtown area. Most who know Dave quickly notice he is not afraid of hard work or volunteering at any level. With 17 years in Pound Ridge, he has shown himself to be committed, generous, knowledgeable and capable. These qualities make David Dow an asset for any town board and we would be lucky to have him on ours.

Please join me in supporting Dave for town council in November. Bonnie Schwartz Pound Ridge
