To the editor:

This year’s campaign in Pound Ridge has been a quiet one, compared with years past. We have two likeable candidates running for our open council seat and they’ve kept things “above board” throughout. Letters to our local paper and in The Daily Voice have all been constructive, attempting to help make the case for each person running. However, there was a recent endorsement made by a “Democratic District Leader” in the Record Review which flew in the face of this positive campaign.  In the endorsement, the author criticized our entire board, lamenting that their meetings aren’t substantive enough, the supervisor and our councilmen are not protecting what we love about Pound Ridge and that they aren’t concentrating on what really matters. Well, if this is the case… it’s news to the residents of our town. Anyone who has attended these meetings has witnessed the collaboration people here expect from their public servants.

The town just received a newsletter from them all this week, providing further evidence of this team approach. Dick, Ali, Bonnie, Dan and Jon have worked quite well together for the past 10 months, discussing issues of great importance to Pound Ridge: HUD, Ridge 29, TEP, unfunded Albany mandates, etc.  By the end of the letter, it became apparent that the only reason she gives for voting for her candidate is because she’s a Democrat. Well, I can tell you confidently that David Dow is worthy of your vote –and it has nothing to do with his party affiliation. It has everything to do with his knowledge, his experience, his temperament and his penchant for putting Pound Ridge’s interests above all else. That’s why you vote for someone in a local election –it ought to be why you vote for someone in any election.

Dave Dow has the perfect personality for this “swing” seat. He is not a lightning rod. I have actually had people ask me which party line he’s running on. He is the steady oar with a quiet passion. Many people reading this letter who know him personally as I do will agree with this analysis.

He’s proven himself as such on a diverse library board, as its president. As a legal eagle and scientist, he boasts critical thinking skills that the job of councilman demands. As a Pound Ridge resident and business owner, he and his wife have much invested here. They are fully immersed in town affairs and events. Their sleeves are perpetually rolled up; the model family when it comes to hearing the civic call of duty and answering it –every time.

Dave Dow has proven that he is “all in” on Pound Ridge.

We should be “all in” on Dave on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Sincerely, Joe Malichio Pound Ridge
