Phyllis Ratliffe, 93; Pound Ridge Resident Served In Navy In WW II

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Phyllis Corinne Ratliffe, 93, of Blue Ash, Ohio, a longtime Pound Ridge resident, died Jan. 9.

The youngest of three children, she was born to Genevieve and Robert More on Aug. 21, 1921 and raised in St. Paul, Minn. She attended Carelton College for two years until enlisting in the U.S. Navy on April 19, 1943. She served as a Link Instrument Flight Trainer in Hutchinson, Kan. until the end of World War II in September 1945.

Phyllis married Thomas Ratliffe on March 3, 1945. She lived briefly in Santa Monica, Calif. before traveling across the country to Hempstead, N.Y. with her son and husband, who started his commercial art business in New York City.

Phyllis was a partner in her husband’s business and a community church and garden club volunteer.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; three children, Tom (Laraine) Ratliffe of Tallahassee, Fla., Leslie (Rodney) Frankenberger of San Diego, Calif. and Hayley (Shepard) Englander of Blue Ash, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lauren.
