Former ‘King Of Wall Street,’ Westchester Native John Gutfreund, Dies

Scarsdale native and “King of Wall Street” John Gutfreund died Wednesday at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City at the age of 86, Bloomberg reported

Gutfreund became chief executive officer of Salomon Brothers in 1978, and took the company public in the 1980s, making them Wall Street’s first public corporation, according to Bloomberg.

He was senior managing director and executive committee member of the investment bank C.E. Unterberg, Towbin.

Gutfreund's father, Manuel Gutfreund, was the owner of a successful trucking company. He graduated from Oberlin College.
