The Northeast Westchester chapter combines the former Katonah Rotary Club, chartered in 1929, and the 2002-chartered Somers Rotary Club to serve Katonah, Somers, Lewisboro, Pound Ridge, North Salem, and South Salem -- among others.

“The members of more than 33,000 Rotary Clubs around the world place value in service above self,” said Rotary Club of Northeast Westchester President Stan Herz Pearlman in a statement. “We have a commitment to helping others in need.”

ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid, including emergency tented-shelter and supplies such as stoves, blankets and water filtration systems to assist those rebuilding their lives after disasters. The organization is currently assisting relief efforts from earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami and conflict in countries such as Cameroon, Chile, Democratic Republic of Korea, Iraq, Nepal, Niger, and Syria.

“You never know when the next disaster might strike,” said ShelterBox USA Interim Executive Director of Alan Monroe in a statement. “With generous donations such as this one from the Rotary Club of Northeast Westchester, we can continue our mission of providing shelter, warmth and dignity to disaster survivors around the world including the most recent earthquake in Nepal.”

The Rotary Club of Northeast Westchester meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Pinnacle Restaurant at Heritage Hills, 1000 W. Hill Dr., Somers.
