After a competitive bidding process, the Committee for Green Streets unanimously selected Pound Ridge Landscape Architect Louis Fusco to design the new street plan for the Scotts Corners area.

The committee is a joint venture of the Pound Ridge Business Association and the Pound Ridge Partnership.

The project originated when the partnership assessed the streetlights last year before hanging Pound Ridge’s traditional flower baskets. Many of the poles were unstable or broken, with flickering lights and cracked glass. A meeting with New York State Electric & Gas found the street’s underground wiring was outmoded.

The lighting project will be financed through a combination of public and private funding, including donations, grants and fundraising events. The design is expected to be completed by summer 2013.

“More efficient street lighting technologies save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cost less to operate and maintain, have a longer life and provide better visibility, lighting more evenly with natural color rendition,” committee member Wendy Cummings said.

A presentation and discussion of the designer’s plans will be held at the Hiram Halle Library on Wednesday, April 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. Louis Fusco will be on hand to answer questions.

“We will also be sharing our plans for the Adopt-A-Streetlight Program,” said Margaret Metel of the Business Association. “This is a special program we are creating whereby local businesses, groups, families and individuals can adopt a streetlight acknowledged by an engraved plaque to be affixed to the street light.”

Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated that the new lighting should be in place by summer 2013. Louis Fusco's street light plan is expected to be completed by the summer, not the lighting itself.
