Pound Ridge Seeks to Fill Town Committee Seats

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The town of Pound Ridge needs some help.

Town officials are trying to fill seats on a number of government board and commissions are looking for residents to step up and fill the void. Members are needed for the board of ethics, recreation commission, open space committee and the landmarks and historic district committee.

“Volunteers are a key part of town government and we rely heavily on them,” said Supervisor Gary Warshauer. “So many of the things that we do are done by volunteers, such as the fire department, the ambulance corps, the Neighbor to Neighbor program and the office of emergency management. And that includes all the members of these boards as well – they’re volunteers too.”

Warshauer said that while board members do receive a small stipend, “it’s not very much.”

The supervisor said that recruiting volunteers is always difficult, but finding a good fit for a particular committee or commission can be challenging because the person needs to have the right background. For example, a legal background could make a good fit for the ethics committee, while environmental experience would be a plus for someone seeking a spot on the open space committee.

“We look for people with an expertise in a certain area,” Warshauer said. “That’s what makes our town special and we want to continue that. Right now, we have some residents that have indicated an interest in some of these boards and have scheduled some interviews. But as of now, we still have open seats on all of them.”
