Pound Ridge Photographer to Debut Show at Library

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The Pound Ridge Library will debut a new photography exhibit, “Safari: A Rare Look at the Endangered Animals of Africa,” by local Pound Ridge artist Ann Herman starting this weekend.

The exhibit kicks off with the gallery opening Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and runs through March 17.

Hermann, who runs Ann Charles Photography with her husband, Charles, grew up in Pound Ridge and graduated from Fox Lane High School. She graduated from Potsdam College with a BA degree with a concentration in art and photography. She later studied in Florence, Italy.

Herman began her photography career in 2001 specializing in weddings, special events and portraits. She was later joined by her husband and they now work as a team. As a volunteer, she taught Pound Ridge Library’s arts and crafts classes for children. She had her first exhibit at the library in 1995 when she returned from her travels in Europe.

For this exhibit, she spent two weeks with her husband traveling through Kenya and Tanzania. They photographed the Big Five: the lion, elephant, water buffalo, rhino and leopard, all endangered, as well as the cheetah and Thompson’s gazelle and many other exotic species. The show will feature some large-scale metal prints and a 120-picture slide show.

It is the first time the exhibit will be shown in Westchester County.
