Plants Found in Pound Ridge Added To Invasive List

POUND RIDGE, N.Y.-- The Invasives Project-Pound Ridge (TIPPR) has put four new plants recently found in the area on the invasive species list.

Two types of vines, a Swallow-wort vine and a Hardy kiwi were found growing in the area. Both vines can grow up to 20 feet in a single summer.

The other two plants added to the list were shrubs found during a plant inventory of the Westchester Wilderness Trail/Zofnass Preserve. The two plants, Viburnum ‘Cardinal Candy’ and Oriental Photinia were identified as invasive species.

Invasive species are not native to an area and have been identified as causing harm to human health, the economy, or the environment.

TIPPR will will put both invasive and native plants on display and invite people to bring plants for identification between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m at Conant Hall, 257 Westchester Ave. in Pound Ridge.

There is no admission fee and consultations are free.
