POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Pound Ridge’s celebration of Memorial Day began with a parade followed by services on Burial Hill, featuring speeches, a flag ceremony, music, moments of prayer, laying of the wreath by the Scouts, and a floral tribute created by the Pound Ridge Garden Club to honor Sgt. Thomas J. Murphy, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force. It is generally presented by the President of the United States in the name of Congress.

The ceremonies were followed by a barbecue lunch and ice cream in the Town Park, courtesy of a conglomerate of Pound Ridge clubs and businesses.

Meanwhile, in Scotts Corners the 22nd Annual Memorial Day Antiques, Farmers, Bakers & Crafts Outdoor Market was bustling with shoppers and browsers on Westchester Avenue. There too a barbecue lunch was being served and local restaurants were open for lunch as well.
