POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage throughout Pound Ridge, knocking down trees and utility lines and leaving nearly the entire town without power, town officials said Tuesday morning.

Supervisor Gary Warshauer asked motorists to stay off the roads Tuesday as many are impassable.

“Multiple trees, electric poles and wires are down on all main and secondary roads,” he said. “We ask residents to be patient and stay off the roads as our police, highway, maintenance and fire departments work together with NYSEG to clear the wires, remove trees and make the roads safe.”

The town will post road openings on its website ( ) and send notices by email and Twitter (@PoundRidgeNY), as they are cleared and made safe.

“Restoration will be a long process that we expect will begin later Tuesday morning and will extend throughout the week,” Warshauer said. “We will continue to issue Twitter and e-mail notifications providing information about estimated electrical restoration times, sheltering, and the distribution of water and dry ice.”
