In this teleconference, participants will learn how genetic counseling may be able to help them decide whether genetic testing is right for them. The teleconference is open to women throughout the U.S. who are living with breast or ovarian cancer.
Topics will include:
- Why consider genetic counseling?
- What happens when you go to a genetic counselor?
- How might genetic counseling impact your medical management?
- What are the testing criteria for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer syndrome (caused by mutations in the BRCA genes)?
- How does genetic testing affect insurance coverage?
There will be a Q&A session following the presentation.
The teleconference will be presented by Cohen, cancer genetic counselor for Northern Westchester Hospital. She holds an MS degree in human genetics from the Joan H. Marks Graduate Program at Sarah Lawrence College, is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, and completed the City of Hope Advanced Course in Cancer Risk Assessment.
