WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Just hours after a surveillance video was released showing former New Rochelle High School star Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee, the Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract Monday of their star running back, according to ESPN.

Shortly after that, the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely.

The new video shows Rice hitting his now wife Janay Palmer of Mount Vernon in an elevator at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., in February. Palmer had advances toward Rice before he punched her and knocked her out.

Baltimore coach Jim Harbaugh and team members are expected to speak to reporters Monday at 8 p.m., according to the Baltimore Sun.

After an earlier video was released showing Rice dragging Palmer's motionless body out of the elevator, but not the punch, Rice was suspended by the NFL for two games.

The suspension drew a firestorm of criticism as being too light. The league then instituted stiffer penalties for any NFL personnel involved in a domestic incident.

In July, Rice said his actions “were inexcusable” and that he and his wife were in counseling.

Rice, 27, is a native of New Rochelle and played in college at Rutgers University. He was a second round draft pick by Baltimore in 2008.

In six NFL seasons, all with the Ravens, he has rushed for 37 and touchdowns. He also has six touchdown receptions. He signed a 5-year, $35 million deal with the team in  2012. In 2011, his best year, he rushed for 1,364 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 76 passes and three touchdowns.
