Going to an art museum for the day doesn't seem like the easiest thing to do when you have a new baby, but the Katonah Museum of Art is trying to change that.
June 17th marks the first date of their new "Stroller Tours" program. It invites new parents with children under 18 months old to come to the museum for a guided tour of the exhibition. The programs allows for parents to meet others in the community, as well as see art while their children are entertained. Museum board member Ellen Grimes thinks that it will be "a fun tour of the exhibition that is both interactive and informational. It will be fun for parents who want to get out and meet other people," she said.
While the program is mostly aimed at pleasing the parents, the museum has made sure that the kids will be occupied and happy too. At the end of each tour there will be non-threatening arts and crafts for the kids, allowing them to express their artistic sides.
"The museum was working on reaching out to parents and it was a natural idea that expanded to the 'Stroller Tours' series," Grimes said.
The tours will be on June 17, July 15, August 12, and September 16 and are expected to last about an hour. There will be coffee and conversation before each tour starts.
Each one will focus on a different aspect of the newly opening exhibit at the museum, Double Solitaire: The Surreal Worlds of Kay Sage and Yves Tanguy.
