Electronic Truck Sensors Installed On Hutchinson River Parkway

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Drivers of oversized trucks traveling toward two Hutchinson River Parkway interchanges will now be greeted with electronic signs advising them to pull over and wait for police, according to a press release by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.

The electronic over-height vehicle detection system was completed to prevent oversized commercial trucks from hitting low bridges, Cuomo said.

The detection systems were built at the Mamaroneck Avenue southbound ramp onto the parkway and at the four ramps from I-287/Westchester Avenue onto the parkway.

“This administration has been focused on improving New York’s transportation network and better protecting those who rely on it,” Cuomo said. “Installing these devices will help with these goals and ensure that a vital Hudson Valley roadway (is) safer and more reliable for those depend on it.”

This project was part of a $5 million pilot program approved last year by Cuomo and the state legislature.
