Some of the warning signs of mental disorders that were discussed are extreme euphoria or withdrawal and difficulty learning.
"Think about illnesses as an impairment to people's ability to live, laugh, love and enjoy life," said Barowsky on the podcast. "Mental illnesses are diagnosed when they invade upon a person's ability to do something."

In adolescents, mental disorders often manifest differently. Adolescents often become agitated and not morose. Other symptoms in adolescents include extreme risk taking and significant differences in grades and unwillingness to cooperate in school.
Mental illness interventions can be effective, if you express empathy and concern about a how loved one is functioning.
There are risks for not seeking treatment. A person's mental health issues can become more severe. Early intervention allows treatments to slow progression and make stable functioning more likely.
There are different types of non-medical and medicated treatments available. Exercise, yoga and therapy are all non-medical treatments that may help mental illness. In instances where non-medical treatments do not work, there are medicines to treat disorders. In extreme cases where people are hospitalized, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) also known as shock therapy may be used.
