Clean-Up Day Snowballs Into Town-Wide Bash

What started as a plan for a morning of business district beautification work ballooned to a town-wide block party that will take over the Pound Ridge business district next week."Someone said, 'Why don't we have a cook-out after the clean-up?' and then we thought, 'Why don't we invite the other town groups?' and then it became this town-wide thing," said Ali Bouk, a board member of the Pound Ridge Partnership community association that is organizing the event. "We hope it will become an annual event."Dubbed Pound Ridge Pride, the June 5 event starts at noon with a two-hour cleaning and sprucing-up of the business district, and the party gets started at 2 p.m. Local musicians Rich and Donna Volpitta supply the music along with their band The Subourbans, and Scotts Corner Market and the Pound Ridge Police Benevolent Association host the barbecue.Activities and entertainment were planned with all residents in mind. Adults can sample wine and beer while children enjoy a jumpy castle and can get temporary tattoos. The whole family can roast marshmallows or compete in pie-eating and hula hooping contests, among other activities.Sue Grissom, who co-chairs of the event, said, "It's a time for everyone, residents, business owners and community organizations to just have a good time together."Entry to the event is free, and scrip for food and activities will be sold at $1 a ticket. Proceeds will go to buy flower baskets and the hardware to hang them from the light poles in the business district. The Pound Ridge Partnership formed a year ago to complement the efforts of the Pound Ridge Business Association with beautification and other programs.
