Cause Of Pound Ridge House Fire May Never Be Known

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The cause of a fire that burned a three-story home on Park View Road to the ground last week may never be determined due to the extensive damage done to the structure.

Pound Ridge Fire Chief Steve Eidam said the fire is still under investigation but noted that the underlying cause of the blaze at 160 Park View Road may be impossible to determine.

More than 50 firefighters responded to the fire last Thursday. Mutual aid was supplied to Pound Ridge from departments in South Salem, Vista, and Bedford Hills. The New Canaan, Conn. department remained on standby at the Pound Ridge firehouse, while its ambulance corps responded to the scene of the fire. No injuries were reported.

“It was a pretty good turnout for the middle of a weekday afternoon,” Eidam said.

As the fire burned through power lines that cut across the property, New York State Electric & Gas cut power to the home. Eidam said nobody else in the neighborhood lost power.

Eidam said he didn’t know who the current owner of the home is, noting that the building was vacant at the time of the fire.

“It has been up for sale several times over the last few years,” he said.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud bang before discovering the fire.

“It was a contemporary home that had an indoor pool and it fit into the neighborhood beautifully,” said Billye Steinnagel, a Park View Road resident. “It’s sad.”
