Air Quality Alert Issued For Pound Ridge

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- With temperatures soaring toward the 90-degree mark Tuesday and high humidity, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Alert for much of the region, including all of Westchester County.

The alert was issued at 10 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100, the NYSDEC said. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern.

The NYSDEC recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects, especially the very young, and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician, the NYSDEC said.

Conditions are also favorable for strong thunderstorms to strike Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. For more, click here.
