Re-Paving Provides Smooth Sailing For Pound Ridge Drivers

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge residents driving on Westchester Avenue may have noticed an improvement. In recent days, the town Highway Department spent three hot days spreading blacktop over the entire two miles of the road surface from the state border to the Route 137 intersection.

This was not a project to re-pave the road but to make it smoother and to give it a new look. In speaking to a representative of the Highway Department, I determined the people who work to keep our local roads safe do an excellent job at it. I also learned the plans for this blacktopping project were decided last year.

Call me naïve, but it always seems most public works projects are done just before an election. Should voters be all smiles and thank our elected officials for thinking of our safety just before asking us to decide who should lead the community?  It would have been nice to see Westchester Avenue blacktopped a year ago, or two years ago or even right after the last major election as means of allowing our public officials in saying thank you for putting them in office. Perhaps it is true voters do have short memory spans. As this is my first contribution to The Pound Ridge Daily Voice, it will be my intention to visit with each Town Department to express my appreciation for the great work our public employees provide us. It is not easy working in public safety or service and Pound Ridge residents are lucky to have some amazing people spending their careers to make the quality of life better for the community.

In visiting with public employees and local places of interest, I have no plans to give lip service to any official who expects me to be a mouthpiece for their agenda. If someone has done something to make Pound Ridge a better place to live and work, rest assured I will provide you with something to read about.
