Pound Ridge's Santo Pulise, 81, Honored Saturday

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Santo Francis Pulise, of Pound Ridge, died Feb. 23 after a long illness. He was 81.

A former self-employed advertiser, Pulise was a volunteer firefighter in Pound Ridge as well as a member of the Pound Ridge Recreation Commission.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Santo A. and Frances A. Pulise. Upon graduating Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, he received the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Award for achievement in art. In 1951, Pulise receive a degree in commercial art from Cooper Union and served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1954.

After his discharge, Pulise worked in advertising in New York City at agencies, including J. Walter Thompson and William Este. His worked was honored with CLIO and TELE recognitions and in 1980, his own business.

Pulise enjoyed sports, playing football, baseball and golf, as well as coaching American Legion baseball for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna, his daughters Claire Birney (Harry) Orth of West Grove, Penn. and Claudia Pulise of White Plains, his son Cristin (Bonnie) Pulise of Chantilly, Va., his sister Camille Hanley of Westchester, Ohio and five grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on March 3 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bedford. A burial ceremony will follow at Pound Ridge Cemetery for close family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 7 Pound Ridge Road, Bedford, N.Y. 10506.
