In the film, which co-stars Susan Sarandon and Tim Roth, Gere plays Robert Miller, a successful financial businessman with a loving wife and a smart daughter, who is ready to take over the family business. However, professional secrets involving fraudulent activities start coming out at the same time his personal secrets take a turn for the worse and threaten to derail a lifetime of achievement.

Entertainment Weekly called “Arbitrage” a “tasty financial thriller” and said, “Gere has never been more likable or alive on screen. His friendly dry charm works for the film in fascinating ways.”

The Hollywood Reporter said the script was “familiar, but not stale” and was “helped along by Gere’s fine-tuned performance.”

Gere, probably best known for his roles in “An Officer and a Gentleman,” and “Pretty Woman,” previously won a Golden Globe best actor award for his performance in “Chicago.”
