The citation is designed to honor outstanding women throughout the 40th Senate District. Each municipality in the area selects a nominee, who is then listed among the year’s awardees.

“I am honored to accept Ms. Butterfield into my Women of Distinction Hall of Fame,” Ball said. “I am so impressed by the lifelong dedication to community service that Joyce has made. She has put service before herself and has made a tremendous mark on the community.”

Butterfield, the mother of three, is a life member of the Pound Ridge Historical Society and has served as president, vice president, trustee and board member. She has been a volunteer on the Pound Ridge Landmarks Commission and is a mentor for Girl Scout Gold Award recipients. Butterfield is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, having joined in 1970, and is currently serving as the Whitestone District Chairwoman.

A ceremony to induct 2013’s Women of Distinction into the Hall of Fame will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building, 110 Old Route 6, Carmel.
