Two years ago, Pound Ridge voters had the most uneventful of elections.  All candidates ran unopposed for their seats.  Apparently we have come full circle as this year’s election is probably the most contentious election we have seen in this town in many years. There has been no shortage of letters, mailers, commentary, whispers, e-mails, etc on each side trying to sway your vote.  At the end of the day, what is best for Pound Ridge is for each person to filter out all of the noise, weigh the information that is relevant, and decide which candidates are best qualified to lead the town going forward. I believe that if people do this objectively that they will decide that the Republican candidates are the best equipped in this regard.

Dick Lyman has been at the forefront of every major project that this town has undertook in the last decade, and he sports a public service resume that equals or exceeds that of anyone who has ever run for Supervisor in this or any other town.

Bonnie Schwartz and Peter Avellino each have two decades of community involvement and thus have a keen understanding of the important issues affecting our residents. In fact, Peter Avellino may be one of the most knowledgeable residents in all of Pound Ridge on local environmental issues.

Debbie Damascus has revolutionized how the Tax Receiver’s office conducts business, and is so admired that no one thought it would be worth the time and effort to run against her.

Sean Dweck is a young and dynamic attorney that has already achieved the highest possible rating from his peers in the legal profession, and would make a great addition to the Town Court.

Our slate is made up of five candidates who regard public service as a sacred trust, and will humbly carry out their responsibilities with the best interests of Pound Ridge residents at the core at all times.

At the town level, people will tend to cross party lines in an election more than at any other level, largely due to the fact that many people know the candidates personally. They have firsthand knowledge of their character, qualifications, and ethical integrity. They are friends, neighbors, coaches and volunteers.

Simply put, they are voting for people, not party. If the voters in Pound Ridge continue in this regard, I believe they will vote for our team.

Good luck to all the candidates, and remember to vote on Tuesday.

Joseph Zaino, Chairman Pound Ridge Republican Town Committee
