POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The founder of the Pound Ridge Neighbor to Neighbor bus service and myriad other programs for seniors, has been awarded the prestigious Marjorie Fay Sachs Award for outstanding community service.
The Pound Ridge Garden Club honored Felice Joaquim with the award during a recent luncheon at Conant Hall
Presented annually by the club since 1980, the award cites an individual who has served the community over many years. The sterling silver punch bowl is engraved with the name of every winner and is on permanent display at the Pound Ridge Town House along with photos and biographies of the winners.
Felice Joaquim never says no and we are pleased to honor her generosity and devotion to our town, said Joan Goldberg, the Garden Clubs awards committee chair.
Elaine Utley, an awards committee member, made the presentation during the luncheon.
Joaquim was instrumental in helping to create numerous resources for seniors, including Neighbor to Neighbor, the senior bus service, and the phone buddy system known as RUOKAY.
I am proud that these services have made life better for seniors and have helped some stay in their home, Joaquim said. Im not one for being center stage but it felt good to be among old friends and I am pleased my name is on the bowl that will remain in Town Hall.
