POUND RIDGE Pound Ridge artist Kendall Klingbeil has been awarded the first Saul White Memorial Award and Best in Show for her painting, Marsh Grass, at the Rowayton Arts Centers Marine and Coastal Art Exhibition.
The awards will be presented at a reception, Sunday, July 10, from 4-6 p.m. at the Center. The event is open to the public.
Klingbeils piece was chosen from 103 entries from 66 Rowayton Art Center members. The judge was Russell Jinishian, one of the leading authorities on contemporary marine art.
Kendall is a native of Springfield, Ohio, and a cum laude graduate of Ohio University. She is also an accomplished singer, tap dancer, and cook. She studied classical painting with Michael Aviano, John Osborne, Daniel Greene, Danielle Wexler, and Joel Popadics.
Some of Kendall's patrons have included John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Richard Gere, Dr. Robin Cook, and Lord and Lady Walton.
The Saul White Memorial Award is named for Saul White, a Rowayton artist and photographer who died in 2010. He was also a teacher at the Rowayton Arts Center.
Rowayton Arts Center is located at 145 Rowayton Ave., in Rowayton, Conn. The gallery is open from noon-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, until 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free. For information call (203) 866-2744.
