The Lions Club's current President is Bonnie Schwartz, who is no stranger to offering time in helping our community whenever possible. Before her arrival in Pound Ridge, the Club was responsible for the construction of our Ambulance Station in the mid 1970s and there are several members who still belong to this worthy organization. Lions International was founded in 1917 and includes 1.3 million members in 46,000 clubs from more than 200 countries world-wide. In 2012, The Pound Ridge Lions celebrated their 50th Anniversary. The Club's Annual Luncheon will be Dec. 14 and it is where members recognize someone from our area who has dedicated their life to community service and presents the individual with a service award. The Club also provides service awards at a ceremony in June at the Town House to worthy Fox Lane seniors who have contributed to our community through community service. In 2013, the Lion's Club awarded $750 each to three graduating Fox Lane seniors. Our local Lions, as with all Lions Clubs, collects used eye glasses and has them restored and given to less developed nations. It was a founding mission of the organization to assist in fighting blindness and remains one of their primary goals. They also perform volunteer work for different community projects, including the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and disabled.
