To the editor:

When we moved from Brooklyn to Pound Ridge in 2005, we were immediately drawn to its bucolic, country lifestyle and believed it was the ideal place to raise our children. As the years have gone by, we realized even more so that it has been the sense of community and attention to the needs of children that really impresses us. This is why we believe Sherene DePalma is the ideal candidate for Town Board.

We first met DePalma while our children attended Pound Ridge Elementary School and were immediately drawn to her energy, her endeavors in creating growth experiences for our children, and her interest in building and nurturing community. Not only did she serve on existing PTA and class parent positions to maintain traditional PRES activities, but she also created new opportunities, most notably for us the second language program.

Without her vision in getting this program to PRES, our older son would not have had a local opportunity to learn Mandarin, a language that isn’t even offered at the middle and high school levels yet. She and her daughter also founded the Pound Ridge Pioneers, an organization for young girls that nurtures leadership, volunteerism and community mindedness.

When we attend Pound Ridge community events like Pride Day or the Harvest Festival, we can always count on seeing DePalma there, providing her time and talents to building a sense of pride in our town.

We believe that DePalma’s background as a local business owner and as an attorney with expertise in business management and conflict resolution makes her ideally placed on our town board to ensure fiscal mindedness and fairness on all decisions so they will have a lasting, positive impact on the diversity and vitality of our community.

When DePalma speaks, you quickly sense her spirit and enthusiasm which makes you want to be a part of her cause. She takes on problem situations with ease and the confidence that success and resolution are achievable. She is firm yet tactful about her positions and navigates sensitively through difficult interactions. These are just some of the qualities we admire in her and believe makes her the ideal candidate for town board.
