Misha Dichter, an internationally renowned classical pianist who was born in Shanghai, turns 72 on Sunday.
Dichter regularly performs recitals and appearances with the world’s top orchestras, often performing as a duo with his wife Cipa.
After Misha's Polish parents fled Poland when World War II started, he relocated with his family in Los Angeles at age 2 and started piano lessons a few years later.
He went on to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. While a student there, at age 20, he entered the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1966 with a repertoire of Beethoven and Schubert and Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky.
Also an accomplished writer, his work has appeared in such publications as The New York Times.
