Things kick off with an informal social gathering on Friday, October 4, at 7 p.m. at the Westchester Burger (353 North Bedford Road, Mt. Kisco). Food and drink for attending alums will be half-price throughout the evening.

Saturday includes a tour of the Fox Lane campus, with discussions of academic changes and achievements, followed by a picnic and, if the picnic gets rained out, a bowling party. At 7 p.m. Saturday evening, cocktails and dining at the Mt. Kisco Holiday Inn will be accompanied by music and dancing to the top hits of the ‘60s, provided by DJ Ricky. The fee is $75 per person, including non-alcoholic beverages. There will be a cash bar.

The location of the wrap-up brunch on Sunday is still to be determined.

“When I went to Fox Lane, it was seventh through twelfth grade,” explained co-organizer Denis Weil. “So even if you moved away, as my family did, you still had plenty of friends there. Fox Lane is still our high school and we have loyalties there.” Weil still maintains friendships with classmates from Pound Ridge Elementary School, he added.

The idea for the 50th reunion arose when Weil and four other Pound Ridge friends got together last fall in Nashville. At the very same time, classmate Bernie O’Kane, up north, had his own epiphany. So they all got together and began to make plans.

“When I grew up there was no such thing as the internet,” Weil recalled. “For the 25th reunion we relied on the postal service, a lot of telephoning and word-of-mouth.”

Now living in California, Weil expects that he will take the longest journey to get back east, but he knows of other alumni coming from Florida, Nashville and other parts of the southeast, Houston, Chicago and other parts of the midwest.

There were approximately 140 people in the graduating class of 1963. Of those, 85 have already signed up, including guests, and 50 are still to be heard from. There seem to be 40 missing persons in the class, so pass the word if you know any of them.

A block of rooms at the Mt. Kisco Holiday Inn has been booked on behalf of party-goers. You can register at the Fox Lane Reunion special rate of $139 per night. Call 888-452-5771 to make a reservation.
