During their full-time schedule, the apprentices experience working in clinical areas in the Hospital including pediatrics, the emergency department, ICU, labor and delivery and other departments. They also perform supervised tasks such as answering call bells, taking vital signs, assisting patients with meals, assisting nurses as needed and sitting with patients, reading to them and keeping them company.

The graduation ceremony was held in the hospital’s auditorium, attended by Hospital leaders, staff members, the graduates and their families. A letter of congratulations from Congresswoman Nita Lowey, who is a longtime supporter of the program, was read during the program.

“After 11 very successful years, we are very invested in this program, which helps us recruit and retain so many talented young people," said White Plains Hospital Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, Leigh Anne McMahon. “It also helps prepare the students, themselves, for successful and productive careers in nursing, and gives them an edge in the job market.”
