Recipes to Make Your Super Bowl Party a Winner

This Super Bowl Sunday, don’t just order a pre-made 6-foot-long sub from the local deli or Buffalo wings from the local tavern. Make your party as memorable as the game itself by providing your guests with a munchies menu that is unique, delicious and easy to prepare.

The key to creating a menu for a football-watching party is to make the food easy to hold and easy to consume. You don’t want your guests to have to fiddle around with a lot of utensils when their focus should be on the TV screen.

As a veteran of many Super Bowl parties (both guest and host), I have put together an extensive collection of recipes and will share some of my favorites with you. So bon appetite and enjoy the game.

Chicken Fingers With Honey Mustard

Ingredients for Chicken Fingers: 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts (4 ounces each); 1 cup all-purpose flour; 1/2 teaspoon salt; 3/4 cups milk; 1 cup vegetable oil for frying Ingredients for Honey Mustard: 1/2 cup honey; 1/4 cup Dijon mustard

Process: Mix the honey and mustard together and set aside. Cut chicken into 1/2-by-2-inch strips. Mix flour, salt and pepper into shallow bowl. Dip chicken into milk and roll into flour mixture, coating well. Place chicken on waxed paper. Pour 1/4 inch of oil into heavy skillet and heat to 350 degrees F. Divide chicken into batches and place in even layer into hot oil. Fry, turning once, for about three minutes on each side. Drain on towels and serve with sauce.

Fish Tacos

Ingredients: 1 pound tilapia or halibut; 1/4 cup canola oil; 1 tablespoon ancho chili powder; juice of one lime; 1/ 4 cup chopped cilantro; 1 coarsely chopped jalapeno; 8 flour tortillas; lettuce/shredded cabbage; chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, grated cheese, corn; salsa; hot sauce; sour cream

Process: Preheat stovetop grill to medium high and place fish in medium-size dish. Wisk together the lime juice, ancho, oil, cilantro and jalapeno and pour it over the fish. Let marinate for 15-20 minutes. Remove fish from marinade and grill, flesh side down, for four minutes. Turn it over and cook for 30 seconds more – remove from grill. Rest fish for five minutes and then flake it using a fork. Grill tortillas for 20 seconds each. Divide fish between tortillas and top with lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, onion, corn, cheese, salsa, hot sauce and sour cream.

Michigan Sauce for Hot Dogs

Cook up your favorite hot dogs and then top them with this incredible sauce to take them to a whole new level.

Ingredients: 1 chopped medium onion; 1 chopped green pepper; 1 1/4 pound hamburger; 12 ounce bottle of chili sauce; 15 ounces of tomato sauce; 12 ounces tomato paste; 1 tablespoon prepared mustard; 1/3 cup of sugar; 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar; 5 shakes of Tabasco; 1 tablespoon salt

Process: Sauté onion and pepper in oil until soft. Add crumbled hamburger meat and cook until pink is gone. Add chili sauce, tomato sauce, tomato paste, prepared mustard and sugar and stir. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. Add vinegar, hot sauce, salt and stir some more. Top your hot dogs and enjoy.
