Plum Plums Cheese Shop on Westchester Avenue in Scotts Corners will help you put together a platter of – what else? – gourmet cheeses.
“People can come in and sample the different cheeses and put together their own platter or they can have us do it for them,” said Adam Free, who owns the shop with his wife, Audrey. “The cost depends on how big it is and what kind of cheese they choose.”
One thing new to Plum Plums this Super Bowl is the addition of Baldanza Bella Cuccina – a gourmet food business that’s partnered with the cheese shop. It was started by Pound Ridge resident Sandy Baldanza.
“It’s geared for people who are busy but still want a great meal – all you have to do is heat it up,” Free said. “It’s real high-end food with all local organic ingredients.”
Baldanza is offering some dishes exclusively for the Super Bowl. All customers have to do is go to the website – http://www.baldanzabc.com/#!menu/cfpj – order what they would like to have at their party and then pick it up at Plum Plums. Some of the items, which are designed to serve 10 people, include sausage and peppers for $60, lasagna for $70, mac ‘n’ cheese for $50, chili for $60 and chicken Parmesan for $75.
“Super Bowl parties have become bigger over the past few years,” Free said. “People are starting to get back into it and the food is always a big thing. Last year, with the Giants in it, it was huge for us.”
Down the road, Scotts Corners Market is gearing up for what owner Billy Fortin expects to be a busy Super Bowl weekend.
“When you first walk in the door, you see we have a wagon full of chips and salsa on display,” Fortin said.
But the market also creates its own dishes – most of them traditional Super Bowl fare.
“We do five different varieties of chicken wings and we sell a tremendous number of them,” Fortin said. “We have a seven-layer dip for nachos and, of course, we have the 3- to 6-foot-long subs.”
Fortin said one of the store’s most popular subs is the chicken with tomatoes and mozzarella, but it also offers the traditional Italian combo or the American wedge. The Market is offering a special on the Italian and the American – a 3-footer goes for $36.
“We did like 40 wedges – maybe more – last year,” Fortin said. “We set up tables in the back and have like an assembly line.”
The Market also offers an array of platters such as vegetable and cheese and pepperoni.
“We sell a ton of humus, too,” he said. “It’s no longer just the greasy food – it’s a different time we live in these days.”
The Pound Ridge Deli is offering 3- to 6-foot heroes for $16.95 per foot. It is also featuring a variety of party packages.
Package No. 1 includes a half-tray of chicken tenders, chicken wings, French fries and tossed salad for $125. Package No. 2 boasts a 6-foot Italian sub and two pounds each of a choice of two deli salads and a tossed salad for $160. Package No. 3 offers half-trays of sausage and peppers, baked ziti, chicken parmesan and a tossed salad for $200. Cold cut platters are available for $14.95 per person.
