In just five short years, the residents of Pound Ridge have been able to get Grammy-award winning entertainers such as the Spin Doctors and the Smithereens to perform at their annual Fall Festival.

This year, the musical line up features the Minneapolis-based alternative rock band, Soul Asylum.

And it's all thanks to a group of residents who, in 2010, decided, as a way to raise money for improvements to downtown Scotts Corners, to form The Pound Ridge Partnership.

The group brought the community together with the first annual Pound Ridge Pride Day for a community beautification day and block party.

At the end of the day, Mike Daglio, town resident and Partnership Volunteer said to then Pound Ridge Partnership Co-Founder and President Ali Boak, "This was an amazing day! We should do another community event in the fall." Boak agreed and the first Pound Ridge Harvest Festival was born.

The event now attracts thousands of people from all over the tri-state area. And though the music certainly brings them in -- this year's band continues to be generously sponsored each year by Pound Ridge resident Steve Bensusan -- The Pound Ridge Harvest Festival is also known for its Oktoberfest style foods and beer garden featuring local vendors such as Scott’s Corner Market, Asia Hamachi, North Star, The Kitchen Table, the Inn at Pound Ridge and Healing Home Foods, among others.

According to James Best, Pound Ridge Partnership president, there's never a need to "outdo themselves" each year. "We stick to the basics which is to put on a great festival for all," he said, admitting they constantly evaluate themselves and strive to improve the festival each year.

More than 100 volunteers are involved.

New this year: holding the event in the Town Park. (Other years they would close off Westchester Avenue which runs through Scotts Corners and have the festival on the street in front of all the stores.)

Also for the first time, in addition to jumpy houses and obstacle blowups, there will be rides such as The Whip, Half Moon, Kiddy Swing and Euro Bungee.

The Pound Ridge Harvest Festival is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. l7 in the Pound Ridge Town Park (rain date Sunday, Oct. 18).
