Mount Kisco Chef Fills Hearts & Bellies With Free Thanksgiving Buffet

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Close to 250 people were showered with turkey, mashed potatoes apple pie and mimosas on Thursday Nov. 24 when Bonnie Saran, owner of Little Drunken Chef, opened her restaurant doors for her fifth annual free Thanksgiving buffet.

Mimosas were poured for the first time at the free Thanksgiving buffet at Little Drunken Chef in Mount Kisco.

Saran, who also owns Little Spice Bazaar, Little Crepe Street, and Little Kabab Station in Mount Kisco, along with Little Mumbai Market in Pleasantville, guestimates she went through close to 60 pounds of ham, 30 pounds of potatoes, 50 pounds of chicken, eight turkeys and three cases of champagne in an effort to feed those who needed a home for the holiday.

There was also chicken tikka masala, grilled butternut squash with string beans, cranberry sauce, vegetables in coconut sauce, brussels sprouts and dinner rolls.

Many, in fact, thanks to social media and our own Daily Voice story, were waiting in line for the doors to open with a crowd forming at 10:30 a.m. (The event was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

"It was heartwarming and wonderful to see," said Saran. "We had a family from Rockland who drove all the way here -- with seven kids -- as well as a woman from LA who didn't have a place to go and some folks from IBM."

The mayor (Mike Cindrich) even stopped by with his wife as did the village trustee. Saran said the group -- her largest ever -- was a mix of people; a lot of "regulars" along with a lot of new faces.

Wrote Nicole Edenedo on Little Drunken Chef's Facebook page: "Words cannot begin to describe how grateful I am for inviting 'any and everyone' to a free Thanksgiving dinner today, myself included ....

"I cannot think of a better way to have spent my Thanksgiving this year, even though I wasn't with my family."

Added Greg Grzybowski: "Having a beautiful community Thanksgiving at Little Drunken Chef ... such a a beautiful display of unconditional love and 'giving' by the owner and staff...

"They truly are loving, selfless souls that so many are truly proud to be thankful for!"

Saran said she appreciated all the Facebook comments and neighborly support: "I so enjoyed meeting all the people who came. It was just like a big family together... everyone talking, everyone sharing; it was just such a nice feeling."

And, of course, she stressed, couldn't have happened without her amazing staff -- all to be repeated next year.

Little Drunken Chef is at 36 Main St., Mount Kisco,  (914) 242-8800.
