Ex-Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro Pens New Durst Book

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- It was 33 years ago that a horrific murder shook a quiet lakeside home in South Salem.

Former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro has released a new book about Scarsdale native Robert Durst.

There, a 29-year-old woman was killed and most probably chopped up in the basement of her weekend home. So said former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro who told Daily Voice: "Those who believe only good things happen in suburban Westchester County need to read 'He Killed Them All.'"

Her new book, she said, is the definitive story of Scarsdale native Robert Durst and his gruesome crimes --  the one, PIrro said, Westchesterites didn’t see on television.

In the book, which Daily Voice covered in an earlier article here, Pirro offers the transfixing true story of her 15-year investigation into accused murderer Durst for the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen, along with other crimes.

By the time Pirro heard the name Robert Durst, she had already gained a 20-year national reputation for fighting for victims of domestic violence. And when she reopened the cold case of Kathleen Durst, a fourth-year medical student who disappeared without a trace in 1982, she knew one thing for sure: Kathleen was a battered woman.

Though Robert Durst, a millionaire real estate heir and son of one of the wealthiest families in New York City, was suspected by both family and friends, he escaped police investigation. And somehow, the history of his abuse never made in into the public narrative.

Pirro always believed in Durst’s guilt, and in her book, she makes her case beyond a shadow of a doubt, revealing stunning, previously unknown secrets about the crimes he is accused of committing. (See previous Daily Voice story about Robert Durst here.)

In investigating the book Pirro said she found “one ’Holy Shit’ moment after another." Among them:

  • Robert Durst lied about reporting Kathie missing to state police.
  • Durst lied about taking Kathie to the train station.
  • Durst lied about calling Kathie in Manhattan the night she disappeared.
  • The doorman at their New York apartment building was unreliable at best.
  • Durst lied when he told investigators his marriage was “pretty good.”
  • Durst sublet Kathie’s “escape” apartment one day before he reported her missing to NYPD.

And so on.

Said Pirro: "Hopefully readers will understand that people, irrespective of their wealth and money, are capable of committing heinous deeds."
