What To Do In The Lewisboro-Pound Ridge Area This Weekend

This is a great weekend for music lovers in the Pound Ridge/Lewisboro area. Classic rock stalwarts America performs at the Ridgefield Playhouse, and folk/rock legend Richard Thompson makes his Caramoor debut. There's plenty to do outdoors as well, from farmers markets to Wolf Conservation Center events.

Friday, July 13

Open Mic Night at Mariela’s: 8-11 p.m. Get your talent on and be heard! All talent levels are welcome. The event is hosted by Gordon Thurber and admission is free. Mariela’s is located at 71B Westchester Ave. in Pound Ridge. Call 914-764-3424 for more info.

Sleeping With Wolves: 7 p.m.-9 a.m. The Wolf Conservation Center's new nocturnal adventure experience provides a chance to camp out overnight with the 25 wolves that call the WCC home. With all the howls, circling vultures and nature's nighttime chatter, you'll feel like you're camping under the stars with wild wolves.  $275 per four-person tent, $150 for singles, but you must bring your own tent. Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Fresh produce, meats and cheeses, as well as seafood. The market is located at 1202 Route 35 at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

Live Music at Mariela’s: 8 p.m. Kelly Mittleman returns to Mariela’s. Mittleman burst onto the national music scene as a finalist in the NBC “Today" show Superstar Contest several years ago. After singing on the show for six weeks, Mittleman caught the attention of Nile Rodgers, who produced her first album of jazz standards, "Kelly," in 2006. Admission is free. Folk Rock Legend at Caramoor: 8 p.m. Legendary folk-rock guitarist and singer/songwriter Richard Thompson makes his Caramoor debut with an acoustic performance. The show will take place in the intimate Spanish Courtyard, where you are never more than 70 feet from the stage. Thompson was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Top 20 Guitarists of All-Time.” Tickets are $45. Reserved seating is sold out – only general admission seats remain. Evening Howl for Adults at WCC: 7-8:30 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a special Evening Howl and spend time with the wolves during their favorite hour ? dusk. Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America and enjoy a sunset hike to howl with the wolves. Wine and cheese will be served. Guests will also take a short sunset hike to howl with ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa and Zephyr and observe the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican wolves. America in Concert: 8 p.m. America is a perennial classic-rock favorite. Live Music at North Star: 6:30-9:30 p.m. Dennis Collins and Mike DiMeo will perform at the North Star restaurant in Pound Ridge. Collins, who will be accompanied on piano by DiMeo, has recorded with stars such as Roberta Flack, Sting, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill. A Celebration of Wildlife and Art at Ward Pound Ridge: 9-5 p.m. Two exhibits featuring watercolor images, sculpture and photographs are on view at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River. “Watershed Wildlife Watercolors,” featuring the work of wildlife artist Paul Thiesing, will run through Sept. 3, and “A Touch of Nature,” an exhibit of outdoor photography by Bill Wiegelman, will run through Sunday, July 15.
