The town will be hosting its annual town day from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Leonard Wagner Memorial Park. The day will begin with a parade at 1 p.m. and end with fireworks at 9 p.m.

The parade will be led by grand marshall Marianne Desantis, Putnam Valley's financial director, who will be retiring at the end of the month. The day will feature more than 70 vendors and live music.

"You will be greeted by the smells of cooked food," Trustee Jackie Annabi, who organizes the day, said. "From the fire department grilling to baking from the Putnam Valley football club. There are different vendors  trying different things."

Annabi said its a day for a family to come and have a good time without having to take out a loan.

"They can enjoy each other and enjoy the community and what we have to offer," Annabi said.

Annabi has been running town day for the last five years. The day is a tradition that goes back to the 1970s. Since Annabi took over, the festival has expanded from 15 vendors to 70 vendors.

"I really enjoy doing it," Annabi said. "I have a great relationship with vendors. There's a lot of respect back and forth."

Planning town day requires a lot of time and patience, Annabi said.

"I start planning in January," Annabi said. "I like to make sure everything goes smoothly. We make sure we have no duplicate vendors. It's a lot of work. You have to love it and I love doing it. You have to be able to do it.

The day allows Putnam Valley to celebrate what it has to offer, Annabi said. Many of the vendors are businesses or residents in town.

"People find out what their neighbors can do," Annabi said. "There are so many kids who want to volunteer and help us clean up. This is a community that helps each other."

Annabi said Entergy and Tompkins Mahopac Bank are generous sponsors that allow them to put on the fireworks show.
