Professor David Meyer of Northwestern University will present “Experiencing Hubble: Understanding the Greatest Images of the Universe,” from 1-3 p.m. on July 23, 30 and Aug. 6 in the Schaffner Room at the Pound Ridge Library, 271 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge, N.Y.

The 13th installment in the series, this seminar will highlight the 25-year anniversary of the Hubble Telescope and compliment the library’s art exhibition “Astrophotography: Treasures of the Northern and Southern Skies,” by Scott Nammacher.

The series of DVD college-level seminars is designed and moderated by Pound Ridge resident Lawrence Brotmann and consists of four 30-minute lectures each week for 3-12 weeks, depending on the class.

Brotmann’s program, in conjunction with Teaching Company/Great Courses, is a new educational concept and the first of its kind in the country. It’s designed to provide a collegial, small- group setting for courses that “you didn’t get a chance to take in college, but wanted to.” Subject matter -- taught by professors from major universities in the country -- ranges from art and history to religion, science and linguistics to name a few.

Courses for the 2015-2016 series beginning in September and tentatively include “History of European Art,” “The Story of Human Language,” “Big History,” and “Comparative Religion.”

Seminars are free and open to the public, but registration is recommended. For more information or to register, call the library at (914) 764-5085, email hhml@wlsmail.org, or visit its website at poundridgelibrary.org.
