More than 500 Norwalk residents recently participated in the city’s first-ever light bulb swap at City Hall, where they exchanged more than 3,000 traditional incandescent light bulbs for high-efficiency LED bulbs.
“As a result of the significant resident participation in the first exchange, we are happy to offer another opportunity for Norwalk households to participate in saving energy in their homes” said John Kydes, chairman of the mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force.
The upcoming light bulb swap will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Room of Norwalk City Hall. In case of inclement weather, the swap will be Sunday at the same time and location.
Light bulbs swaps are a great way for residents to see immediate energy savings. A single LED bulb has a life expectancy of about 23 years and can save homeowners as much as $10 per year versus a traditional incandescent bulb, which lasts about two years.
Norwalk residents, with identification, will be able to exchange old incandescent or CFL bulbs for up to five free LED light bulbs. In addition to the light bulb swap, energy experts from Eversource will be available to answer questions and provide information about other actions residents can take to save money by making their homes more energy efficient.
Additional LED energy saving products, such as holiday lights, night lights and specialty bulbs, also will be available for purchase at a discounted rate.
The City of Norwalk is paying for the swap with a $15,000 Bright Idea Grant, earned through its participation in the Energize Connecticut’s Clean Energy Communities program.
