Nine Billionaires With Westchester Ties Make Forbes 400 List

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. --  Westchester is home to nine billionaires on the 2014 Forbes 400 list that was released on Monday, Sept. 29. 

Former New York City Mayor and North Salem resident Michael Bloomberg was named to the Forbes 400.

Former New York City Mayor and media magnate Michael Bloomberg, who owns a home in North Salem, was the wealthiest Westchester resident with a net worth of $35 billion. Boomberg was ranked eighth overall. 

Other current and former Westchester residents to make the list, with their ranking, source of wealth and net worth, are:

  • Mark Zuckerberg, No. 11, born in White Plains, raised in Dobbs Ferry and briefly attended Ardsley High School, $34 billion.

  • George Soros, Katonah, No. 17, Soros Fund Management, LLC, $24 billion.

  • Daniel Och, 153, Scarsdale, Chairman and CEO of Och-Ziff Capital Management Group, $3.7 billion.

  • David Rockefeller, No. 201, Sleepy Hollow, philanthropist, $3 billion.

  • David Gottesman, Rye, No. 322, First Manhattan Co., CEO, $2.1 billion

  • David Einhorn, No. 355, Rye, founder and President of Greenlight Capital, $1.82 billion

  • Nelson Peltz, Bedford, No. 361, Trian Fund Management, $1.78 billion

  • Thomas Secunda, Croton, No. 368, Bloomberg executive, $1.73 billion

Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder, was the biggest gainer on the list, going from $15 billion to $34 billion in just a year, Forbes said. 

Forbes has been compiling the "400" list for 33 years and takes a vast array of information into account, including SEC filings, court records, all types of assets, debt and personal interviews. 

Those with dispersed family fortunes were not included in this list. 

Overall, Bill Gates was the rated as the richest man in the United States with a net worth of $81 billion. It's the 21st year in a row Gates has topped the list. 

The Forbes 400 list is worth a collective $2.29 trillion, according to Forbes.
